...The southside of Chicago has long been a hotbed for the up‐and coming
talent and the newest trends in dance music. Setting the pace for the current Chicago sound is its newest favorite sons ‐ Ghetto Division ‐ who are making their “own lane in the club music game.” Native‐born Chicagoian Eddie Regalado Jr, AKA DJ Rampage is one of the crew’s most renowned producers. Hisq release ‐ The War EP, out on Nightshifters ‐ has set the standard for the future sound of Chicago, with its blend of rave, bmore, ghetto‐house and dubstep. From humble beginnings as a mobile DJ, he’s become a seasoned veteran of Chicago’s club and party scene, taking the decks in the mid‐90’s to craft a unique style inspired by the city’s own house music. Since then he’s collected influences as easily as praise, combining a love for the recent electro, dubstep, bassline, wobble sound with respect for drum n’ bass, disco, techno, as well as the odd bit of funk, film soundtracks and video game sound effects. A Rampage production is likely to be energetic, house‐influenced, and unpredictable, yet above all, quintessentially Chicagoian. In an effort to promote this forwardthinking style, Rampage along with Charlie Glitch, Maddjazz and Rob Threezy formed the DJ/production crew known as Ghetto Division, and together have exposed their characteristic sound to the dance music scene. And the scene is listening. Besides a highly‐publicized alliance with the New Jersey / Philadelphia based Brick Bandits, Rampage has shared the decks with celebrated and infamous trendsetters by the likes of Diplo, DJ Sega, Toy Selectah, AC Slater, Flosstradamus, and made clubs bang across California and the Midwest, as well as SXSW.

Rampage: Southside Boogie EP Now Available!!!

“Ghetto Division records keeps ‘em coming with the third solo EP from none other than the unfailingly astounding Eddie Regalado; or how he is best known, the prolific and notorious Rampage. Hot on the heels of Windy City Nights EP on T&A and the free Conflake Y Platano EP – both collaborations with The Chicago Deadbeats’ Nader – the Southside Boogie EP is full of house and disco-house monsters. Southside Boogie is fourth release on the newest imprint to showcase the future sound of Chicago house, Ghetto Division Records.
Each track is a creative combination of the classic elements of disco, house and the filter disco/nu-disco/disco-house style. The EP opens with “High Ride” a solid disco-house number that eases you into Rampage’s lifelong love affair with disco. “Midnight Groove” picks it up, gives off a bit of an upbeat, housier feel, with a healthy dose of filters. “What’s That Groove” is nothing but high-energy, complete with clipped vocals and piano stabs. The final original track is also the deepest: the smooth, 80’s-inspired “Knights Over Chicago.”
The remixes featured on Southside Boogie are from none other than French wunderkind The Phantom’s Revenge, who transformed High Ride into a chopped up party-rouser as only he could. Fellow native Southsider Vince Melo might’ve made a name for himself as a DJ in the 90’s Chicago scene and might also count his contemporaries among Chicago house legends Lego and CZR. But Vince surely shows off some sharp production chops in giving Midnight Groove an innovative syncopated shuffle, while toning down What’s That Groove enough to accommodate a bit-crushed piano and a call to “Go way back, back into time.””

We’re old friends with Rampage and his Ghetto Division crew, having released Rob Threezy’s “Let’s Go Ravers EP” last year on T&A. But we first heard Rampage & Nader’s disco-house on a podcast. Ghetto Division rocked a Best of Chicago mix for XLR8R, spanning 90 tracks and 30 years of Chicago house. Amid all those classic records, the track that stood out the most was a new production, Rampage and Nader’s “Get Up.” So we hit up Rampage and as it turned out, they had a whole bunch of hits in the can. A few months later we present the “Windy City Nights EP.”

“Get Up” is the lead track here, and it is just impossible to sit down when this one comes on. It was hard to let this one out of the secret crate because it has been killing crowds everywhere we go. “Get Up” definitely holds its own next to disco-house staples by Bob Sinclar, Duck Sauce, Fake Blood and so forth.

“Gave You Love,” with its big diva vocal and filter disco loops, is a DJ favorite: we sent out all four tracks from the EP to some of our favorite DJs, and everyone picked this one to remix. Top Billin took it to New York, with a Todd Terry style tribute to the legends of old school house (produced entirely on an MPC). Adulture and Venice keep the disco but base their remix on an entirely different sample, going more of a funk route, while Starks & Nacey modernize it, keeping only a vocal snippet and laying it over a huge club / techno hybrid beat. Be sure to turn on your sub woofer for that one!

Similarly, Rampage’s “Party Time” features a few little vocal snippets but the rest is all twerky synths and rave stabs over 909 badness. Ghetto Division’s Maddjazz keeps the rave but takes the drums tropical and the bass low.

“Get Funky” is more or less techno, taking it a bit harder for the 3 AM crowd. We could definitely hear this one smashing the club in Detroit or Berlin.

Ghetto Division’s Rampage and frequent collaborator Nader release free EP! Sonido Rampage y Nader – Conflake y Platano EP! GD’s Rampage and new young talent Nader from the Chicago Dead Beats. These boys are certainly onto something, and it’s not just the EP’s cumbia / raverton / moombahton / freestyle / house tip. Just a few weeks ago Nadastrom released the Rum & Coke EP for free to much praise, with Rampage and Nader following their example.

They might even be overshadowing it! Just before its announcement in this XLR8R article, Rampage and Nader set up a Soundcloud for their collaboration. They also had Soundcloud host the tracks of Sonido Rampage Y Nader’s Conflake y Platano EP – which already hit Soundcloud’s allotted downloads in only four days! No worries, we’ve already re-uped that limit, but surely, this is proof that this hybrid sound has many interested and many more looking this-a-way for the new trend in dance music. This mix of Chicago’s house and the boys’ own cumbia / sonoras / latin-influence was admittedly picked up from home, family (mostly, their moms) and growing up listening to groups like Angeles Azules. Not to mention that the two were introduced to the idea of making beats out of their backgrounds from DJs like Toy Selectah, and the Bersa Discos crew. The SXSW edition of their Tormenta Tropical party left a lasting mark on Rampage, inspired him to start this project and the night’s original San Francisco residency was the first place he was able to showcase these new productions.

This month's Tormenta Tropical festivities will feature a couple of out-of-town homies whose work we've admired from afar for quite some time. First is our boy RAMPAGE, part of Chi-town's Ghetto Division crew. He's been cooking up some cumbia-meets-moombahton-meets-Chicago-house monsters that are simply mindblowing. We've also got our friend GEKO JONES rolling through, part of NYC's Dutty Artz crew and the infamous Que Bajo?! parties.

Of course, residents Disco Shawn and Oro11 will be behind the decks throwing down cumbia heaters and other global bass jams. If you like this music, this edition of Tormenta Tropical is NOT TO BE MISSED.

Welcome to Chicago’s South Side and a taste of what’s to come. These young upstarts
have been making a name for themselves throwing great parties in Chicago that feature
up and coming artists such as Night Slugs’ Kingdom and Mad Decent’s DJ Sega and
attract sold-out crowds. They’ve represented their hometown proper in a featured XLR8R
City Guide Mix, and deftly handled the difficult task of paying homage to the dense
history and unique style of Chicago. They’ve also released tracks, remixes and EPs on
labels such as Mad Decent and Nightshifters, but have long planned to start their own
imprint for releases from more up and coming young Chicagoans.

May 25th marks the launch of Ghetto Division Records with their self-titled LP as its
debut release. The Ghetto Division LP boasts nine of the most solid dancefloor fillers, at
once influenced by techno, hard house, disco, latin, rave stylings, and above all HOUSE.
But Ghetto Division boasts a sound all their own, one that’s being recognized as “the
future sound of Chicago.”

Charlie Glitch’s “B Horn E” adds a touch of techno, Rampage’s “Let’s Go” shows a love
affair with filter disco, while many of the tracks, including D-51’s “Mi Trompeta”, Lorenzo
Vektor’s “Que Bonito” MaddJazz’s “Feel The Vibe” and Rob Threezy’s “La Chalupa”
feature elements of the boys’ Latin roots strongly. The younger GD members also offer a
couple amazing contributions, from Louie Cue’s “The Feedback,” Moonman’s “Friendly
Fire” to standout track “Busta” from M-dok; each are a great representatives of the
sound Ghetto Division is known for.

Once said to be “creating their own lane in the club music game,” this and forthcoming
releases from Ghetto Division are sure to set a new beat for Chicago dance music.

NIGHT SLUGS: Everyday in electronic music, something new pops up that challenges listeners to find new ways to dance their asses off. From almost abusive sub-bass half-step rhythms to percussive funky beats, the sounds emerging from the U.K. have been dominating parties worldwide with a huge variety of artists and tunes. This emergence birthed new record labels, and from small beginnings as a successful party in their homeland, producers Bok Bok and L-Vis 1990 put their heads together and created the fresh, new imprint of Night Slugs. Carefully choosing the talent they will put out, they begin their record label venture by churning out a release that has been surrounded by hype and a bevy of remixes that are destined for rhythmic euphoria. Starting off with producer-du-jour Mosca, Night Slugs has begun a surely successful ascent into the pantheon of amazing independent labels.

When it came time to commission someone for the Chicago edition of our City Guide podcast series, we here at XLR8R spent weeks brainstorming and tossing around possible candidates, many of them legends in their own right. After all, we were talking about Chicago, the birthplace of house music. But then we received an email out of the blue from Ghetto Division, an energetic crew of young Windy City DJs and producers whose roll call includes founders Rob Threezy, Maddjazz, Charlie Glitch, and Rampage alongside newer members Lorenzo Vektor, D-51, MoonMan, M-Dok, Sigma, and Louie Cue. The guys were actually volunteering to tackle the Chicago podcast, promising to do justice to their city's rich house music history while also incorporating the newest Chicago sounds. We'd heard amazing things about Ghetto Division's Southside Shakedown parties, and their passion for their hometown and the podcast was convincing to say the least, so we took a bit of a risk and handed it over to them. And boy, did they deliver—this mix is MASSIVE, covering 90 tracks in fewer than 70 minutes and running the gamut from acid house classics and Chicago legends like Cajmere, Fast Eddie, and DJ Funk (to name a few) to the newer, bassier, and occasionally Latin-flavored sounds of the crew's own productions. If this is the future of Chicago, the city has nothing to worry about.

Here’s what’s in store for nightlife, 2010.

While deejaying used to be an elite art for diehard enthusiasts with a seemingly endless record collection, digital technology now has changed the nightlife game. Budding DJs and producers can try their hand with a couple hundred bucks and an iTunes account. Sure, technological advances have diversified the scene, but while the raw talent of the MySpace generation has an easier time making it big, an army of lackluster wanna-bes has also flooded the market, watering down the music and the scene. So, with both ends of this spectrum in mind, we talked with some of Chicago’s most forward-thinking DJs, promoters and tastemakers to get their predictions for where the club scene is headed.

For a while, it seemed Chicago’s nightlife was going to remain impervious to the country’s economic woes. No such luck. “A lot of our better venues have closed recently,” says Shreyas Shah, founder of local cultural promotions company Good for Party. “On top of that, venues that have been open for a while aren’t what they used to be, and many of the new ones haven’t delivered on their hype.” With highbrow institutions like Sonotheque and Lava closing or closed, and spots like the Shrine and Zentra vying for mainstream appeal, outlets for cutting-edge DJs are seriously endangered, while populist digital jocks thrive.

“We will see more dive bars attracting unpretentious crowds and playing fun, eclectic music,” Shah continues. He’s right: In the wake of the recent closures, bars like Liar’s Club and darkroom have already started adding parties. Steve Mizek, moderator for Chicago-based electronic-music blog Little White Earbuds, also points to a reshuffling within the city. “More house bookings will likely go to Cuatro on the South Side, depending on how much Nate Manic feels house when programming Smart Bar,” Mizek says. Aside from techno, which is well represented at joints like Spy Bar, or the progressive and trance scene, which still holds its own at places like Vision and Excalibur, Smart Bar—and its music director, Manic—will be integral in keeping house, drum ’n’ bass and offshoots like dubstep alive in the city.

Thankfully, not all the trends seem so dire. In fact, in many of the clubs dominated by mainstream pop, the underground is bubbling to the surface. Now that European dance staples like David Guetta are snagging Grammy nominations, hit makers such as Sean Combs and Rihanna are jumping on the bandwagon, working with German electro innovator DJ Hell and U.K. drum ’n’ bass and dubstep producers Chase & Status, respectively.

And that acceptance makes it easier for DJs to push the boundaries of their sets. “Disco is dominating, and I can see it continuing in 2010,” says independent promoter and booking agent Scott Cramer. “House is also on the rise—not that it ever went away—but it definitely got a little quiet.”

Taking computer-driven, genre-defying sets to new extremes, the ten-man DJ crew Ghetto Division is mobilizing a new generation of club enthusiasts. The South Side collective gathers regularly at Metro for wildly eclectic 18-and-over dance parties that cover juke, Baltimore club, dubstep, bassline and the Mad Decent–style sounds of soca and dancehall. Five years ago, we would have never seen a party cover this much musical ground. Steve Reidell, one half of local mash-up kings the Hood Internet, sings the parties’ praises. “They have the whole gang, plus they bring in solid DJs like Kingdom from Fool’s Gold Records, and it’s just massive. The music they’re doing is awesome, and they’ve packed the room each time.”

Hard at work in the clubs and the studio, Hostage took his own brand of party bass to Australia, Asia and Europe this year becoming one of Scotland’s finest exports. Over the past few months he has received huge BBC Radio 1 support from Annie Mac and his tracks have been picked up by Brodinski, Lee Mortimer, DJ Craze and Toddla T, just to name a few. His second EP for Nightshifters, “Valhalla” finds Hostage at his very best, with a slamming mix of current styles served up with a dash of rave and some very meaty bass!

Starting out the EP (as well as most of the DJ sets we’ve heard this month) is the title track “Valhalla”, an orchestrated ride to the home of the Nordic gods complete with swelling choir and Viking drums before a gigantic bass line drop! It’s most definitely the party starter of the year! Next up is “Ronnie Ronnie”, a dubstep flavored wobbly banger in the more traditional Hostage style, while “Asgard” twists Dutch house into a rolling rave burner. Rounding out the Ep is “Rejuvenation” a rave-up complete with funky drums, piano solos, rave breaks and enough build ups to get the hands in the air and the panties to the floor!

We’ve got some fucking awesome remixes too. House legend Angel Alanis delivers a pounding deep house cut while fellow Chicago resident Rampage adds his Bmore touch to the title track. Chrissy Muderbot adds a bit of bouncy juke shouts to keep everything hype and Momma’s Boy’s screeching Dutch inspired syths pushes the rave well past dawn.

Nestled in the Archer Heights neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago existed a musical mecca where legends gathered and the aspiring came to be enlightened. Hot Jams Records, also known as Pink Machine Studio, was an outpost whose patrons revealed as much about the history of Chicago House as the stacks of records they purchased. From the late '90s through as recently as 2007, Hot Jams filled a role far more significant that sales. For area youth like the Ghetto Division collective, the walls of Hot Jams were a safe haven of late nights, forged friendships and daily inspiration. A few years and countless memories later, Ghetto Division carry the torch of Hot Jams, a group of DJs and producers who challenge the norms of Chicago nightlife and champion the cause of original music making.

"Our philosophy is stick together, work hard together and don't stop making music," summarized Roberto Herrera (Rob Threezy). Jorge Ortega Jr. (MaddJazz) elaborated, "We are part of the same group because we don't just DJ. We all produce and make our own music. That's why we are all connected. We have that in common." "And we are all minorities, so we understand ourselves," chimed in Carlos Rodriguez (Charlie Glitch).

A collective in the truest embodiment of the phrase, Ghetto Division boasts a roster of ten main artists, with many of the artists' own younger relatives forming a supporting tier. The group works together to curate events around the city and maintains that a collaborative atmosphere has obvious benefits for their personal music making. "Sometimes I might do something, and show it to Rampage or somebody and he might give me feedback, or an idea that I wouldn't think of. That's the advantage of working in a group," offered Ortega. "It all comes down to making the tracks sound big room, just big, just CHICAGO," added Herrera.

It's this vein of constructive criticism and like-mindedness that has allowed Ghetto Division to consistently remain the wild card in the cut throat landscape of Chicago nightlife. Quantity of bodies in the club are rarely linked to quality of music and promises of the week's biggest excuses to blackout steamroll genuine sentiment. By promoting original production across a wide variety of genres in favor of DJ sets, thinking diverse and aiming past the end of their block, Ghetto Division have been able to cross geographic and demographic boundaries with their events, all without sacrificing the merits of a packed, thoroughly rocked-out party.

"We think Tokyo, Paris and London. We don't think Milwaukee and Ashland to Damen," stated Rodriguez. Herrera summarized, "I think I can speak for everyone here. Quality is more important for us than quantity. We want to produce quality music. Educate yourself. Listen to it."

Thinking outside the boundaries of the city they call home provides needed inspiration for overcoming the challenges of working in Chicago. "We have a stereotype as a city, Haterville. We hate ourselves. People don't show support and we are all trying to do the same thing. If everyone would show each other a little more love, everyone would advance. You've got to reach out to other cities. They show more love than our own sometimes," advised Jose Villalpando (Lorenzo Vektor).

Don't mistake Ghetto Division's realism for jadedness. They are a group unafraid to lay the cards on the table, but aware that the dealing hand they critique is the same that has led to their success. "Chicago alone has influenced me. The people, the rudeness, the gangs, the homeless, the food, that's what makes me want to keep making music to be honest. Man, I love my city. I just want to bring it back up. I got that love," explained Herrera. Eddie Regalado Jr. (Rampage) sees Chicago as a ground of opportunity for Ghetto Division, "There haven't been a lot of producers coming out of the South Side producing quality stuff since the 90s. It's given us the an advantage. There's a big, open market to do what we want."

Doing what they want and not being afraid to be a little bit different along the way is exactly what makes Ghetto Division standout. Recognizing the power of music foundations and mentorship, the group has teamed up with Books In The City to offer, beginning November 15, a series of free, all ages Tuesday evening turntable DJ lessons. "We all learned the hard way and taught ourselves. That's why we want to teach people," said Villalpando. Ghetto Division plan to continue their involvement in community building with followup sessions in digital music applications and hope that someday they can create their own version of Hot Jams, a place for kids to go and people to hang out.

The coming months present an ambitious horizon for the collective, beginning with next weekend's Southside Shakedown party and continuing via a burgeoning relationship with online vendor Beatport, multiple EP releases and the launch of their own label. Ghetto Division show no signs of losing steam and prove that the spirit and influence of Chicago House lives on, a generation and a few genre shifts later.

Jammed into a booth at Simone's in Pilsen, listening to Charlie Glitch, Rampage, MaddJazz, Lorenzo Vektor and Rob Threezy talk about the glory days of Bad Boy Bill, living out of Hot Jams' upstairs with no heat in the winter, the afternoon Diplo found Herrera's music and of course, girls, it was clear the bonds of Ghetto Division ran deeper than anything we had in our own personal lives. This was music, and this was brotherhood.

In closing Herrera had one final message to fellow musicians in Chicago, "Just be open minded. Everyone has a different sound and if you are willing to listen to ours, we are willing to listen to yours. Don't be scared to be different. Being different is weird and badass."

If dance music has a heart, it exists on Chicago’s south side, and Ghetto Division are setting its beat. In an effort to promote this forward-thinking style, Charlie Glitch, Maddjazz, Rampage, Rob Threezy, Moonman, D-51 and the rest of the Ghetto Division crew put together a recurring night at the legendary Metro to showcase their unique sound. The first Southside Shakedown was an astounding success, as supporters from around the Chicagoland area filled the 1,100-person venue to capacity with an energy rarely seen outside of a southside house party.

Fresh from his Fool’s Gold debut release, a remix of a track by Chicago’s own Kid Sister, “Right Hand Hi,” this vanguard of tropical blends, latin stylings and bass-heavy, dance-savvy sounds from around the world is catching the ear of more than a few tastemakers. Kingdom’s set at Southside Shakedown promises a signature fusion of Latin, Kwaito, Bmore, House, Juke, Soca, Bassline, Bubbling, Dubstep, and Dancehall influences likely to bring the house down.

The Chicago Deadbeats are longtime friends with Ghetto Division and will surely bring an outrageously crowd-pleasing set of hip-hop, juke and ghettotech to the night.
Goldar has been making clubs and parties bang all over Chicago, boasting the freshest tracks and an inimitable style that made him an easy addition to the Shakedown.
A southsider with a lot of experience invading the northside of Chicago, Delacutti brings a love of house and juke together with electro and bmore to satisfy every club.
Broken Disco 1980 are better known as the new wave band Perfect Kiss, but when put behind the decks, they manage to pull out some of the most amazing disco, new wave and italo heard this side of 1990.

One of the best things about so-called club music (aka Baltimore club, aka B-more house) is the fact that, despite its rigid stylistic template, it’s amenable to hybridization with a practically infinite range of genres. Though the requirements for something to be considered club music are unusually specific, those are really the only rules it has. Include the right elements—the break from Lyn Collins’s “Think (About It)” and a bunch of rapid-fire bass-drum stutters—and you can make a club track out of anything from Inner Circle’s “Bad Boys” to the theme from Pinky and the Brain. Diplo-approved Philly club-music stylist DJ Sega understands this as well as or better than anyone. His set from this May at New York’s Bowery Ballroom bounces all over the map, touching down in the span of an hour on “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” Michael Jackson, “Woo-Hah!! Got You All in Check,” and Chromeo—but thanks to his skill and instincts, these jarring transitions create a cognitive frisson instead of ugly aesthetic whiplash. here are 10 questions that will help you get to know this chill cat a lil better:

1) What are your vitals:
-Birthday is September 15, 1983
-Born and raised on the southwest side of Chicago. And still live there.
-Been Djing since 95/96 and started producing in 04.
-I use all software. Reason, Recycle, Sound forge and Acid.

2) Where is your favorite place to grab a quick bite to eat? -Giordano’s Pizza or Zaca Tacos in Chicago.

3) What was the last pair of shoes you bought? -Haven’t bought shoes in a while. The last few pairs I got were for free. I think I bought a pair of chucks last.

4) What was your least favorite job growing up? -Working at party city. It was boring! (OMG I worked at a party “shitty” too, it was HELL- t.Bot)

5) If you could go anywhere for vacation where would it be? -Hawaii, Jamaica or Egypt.

6) What genre of music is really making you freak out right now and why? -All the heavy bassline stuff like dubstep, UK garage and 4x4 bassline. It’s very powerful and good to listen to on a very loud sound system with massive subs. I love bass!

7) Tell us more about Ghetto Division…who’s who, and what to expect upcoming?
-Ghetto Division consists of a group of djs and producers from the southside/pilsen area of Chicago. It’s me, Maddjazz, Rob Threezy, Charlie Glitch, Moonman, D-51, Cue-tek, M-dok & Vektor. We have a few vinyl releases coming up, a website and Europe/us tour TBA.

8) Is Twitter the shit? or is it dumb? -Twitter is cool but can get annoying like any other social networking site. It has its pros and cons. I like it because I can see what some of my favorite producers are up to and all the cool shit they do and see. The spammers are a headache though.

9) Can you even begin to envision life in 2020? what does it look like to you?
- I’m not really sure if I can. The way things are looking now. The human race needs a lot of growing up to do. But if we do make it that far I hope things aren’t the way they are now and people can finally learn to live peacefully and enjoy the things we have.

10) Besides music/producing/Djing what does Rampage do on the day 2 day? - I try to devote all my time to music but on my off days I like to watch movies, read and go to some good restaurants because Chicago has some great food ;).

The Beatport page for Rampage's War EP

Ghetto Division DJ and producer Rampage pretty much sums up the squad’s modus operandi with the title track of this EP: throw it all together and see if it works. Some sections of the tune are chilly dubstep, heavy on the style’s signature wobbling bass, and here and there the beat doubles up for an explosive transition into ravey jock-jam synth stabs—but then, instead of following through on that setup and segueing into what the Flosstradamus guys call “power house,” the song drops in a throbbing hip-hop beat at half the tempo of the four-on-the-floor thump you’d expect. “Southside Anthem” is Rampage’s take on juke, spiced with vocal samples and staccato synth horns, both of which get chopped up more and more finely until the whole thing melts down into a sampler-crashing blur. Three of the seven tracks are remixes, and two of those are by Mancunian production duo Heavyfeet—including a hard drum ’n’ bass version of “War” that could’ve ended up on a Metalheadz comp if it’d been released a dozen years ago.

Nightshifters come back with a storming new Ep by Chicago’s own Rampage! Part of the Ghetto Division crew along side Rob Threezy, Charlie Glitch and MaddJazz, Rampage is out for blood with this second ep: War. Whether he’s taking on dubstep, putting a Bmore update on house, or making a stop at the rave, he’s always bringing new sounds to the party!

The Ep starts with the hybrid title track “War”, a rollercoaster of a tune swerving between rave and moody dubstep but over a skeleton of urban claps and kicks. “Loving You Is Easy” builds on the emerging house-Bmore style Rampage and his crew are known for, while “GTFO” is a stomper with thunderous synths and sampled shouts. “Southside Anthem” brings it all back to the neighborhood with Bmore trumpets and enough bass to shake the L Train.

We got some badass remixes too. The Italian duo Blatta & Inesha turn “War” into a galloping kuduro-fueled, rave-siren wailing beast of a track. While Manchester’s HeavyFeet drop 2 remixes- They add a bit more P.L.U.R to “Loving you…” and then push “War” over the brink with a full-on Drum and Bass remix! Whoa! Didn’t see that coming, eh?

 1. Who is RAMPAGE?  
Rampage is one person, Eddie is my real name. I am a DJ/producer/remixer from the southside of Chicago.

2. What are some of your influences? What was your first musical memory?  
Some of my influences include lots of old Chicago house, ghetto house, anything with lots of bass, 90s rave techno, video games from Sega and Nintendo and many old horror films.
My first musical memory would be hearing my family listen to lots of different music from disco to R&B to salsa to oldies to freestyle to house and so on. That’s what basically made me love music.

 3. How you describe your music/DJ-style? Explain your production process.  
My music is basically what I like to listen to and I don’t try to stay in one certain genre. What I mostly play in my DJ sets are tracks that me and my boys from ghetto division produce or remix. I also tend to play around 130 bpm and mix all types of house and underground dance music. I’ll even play sets at slower bpms like disco and reggae and also fast bpms like juke and bassline/dubstep. My production process is basically all software at the moment from a pretty cheap pc haha. I use Reason & Recycle for producing/remixing and Cool Edit Pro/Acid Pro/Sound Forge for my mixtapes.

 4. How does it feel to be part of the Chicago dance scene, such a prolific and important city to dance music? Any big Chicago acts that you feel are gonna put Chicago back on the map?  
Chicago is a great city and I love it. We have so much culture and great music but I feel we need more unity in having massive events like we did in the 90s. We need more underground dance music to be played on the radio and at mainstream clubs. I’m tired of hearing crappy pop/rap music everywhere. We’re a house music city and we need to keep it like that. There’s a lot of hidden talent in Chicago and I think Ghetto Division is definitely part of that. Maddjazz, Rob Threezy, Charlie Glitch, Moonman & D-51 are not only good friends of mine but have so much talent and the world needs to know it. A few others that are making some noise from Chicago are Flosstradamus, Black Holes, Potty mouth, Movement music, Content, DJ Bam Bam, Willy Joy, Starter Djs, Fat Kids, SixPoint DJs and Gant-man just to name a few.

Mad Decent already posted about it. So I thought I'd post some of his other tracks. He's also affliated with the Brick Bandits crew out of bmore, and the ghetto division out of Chicago (crazy credentials). I've already posted his Axel E track (using theme to Beverly Hills Cop) but I thought I'd give him a proper intro. Plus Tittsworth, Don Rimini, and Soulwax have all dropped some sweet mixes for the NYE. Let's do it."
